1 week old

It is hard to believe that our little boy is already 1 week old! Last week at this time we were in the hospital and I was getting to hold our baby boy for the first time. I figured in an effort to remember last Sundays' events I would create an entry about how Corbin came into the world.
At around 7:30 on May 16th I was laying in bed and Josh and I heard a noise that sounded like a hip popping. Josh immediately said what is that-I had felt Corbin move and then felt a pop. There was no water but I immediately started cramping. I got up and went to the bathroom and noticed that I was spotting. I called the dr. on call and he recommended that we go to the hospital because I had not felt the baby move since the weird popping sound. Josh and I began to get ready as quickly as possible but I hadn't felt many more contractions since the initial one so I wasn't that concerned. On the way to the hospital I began having more and more frequent contractions timing around 3 minutes apart. Once we checked into the hospital (at around 8:40) they hooked me up to the fetal moniter and checked my blood pressure which was really high. They were concerned about my high blood pressure and decided that one way or the other we were having the baby today (my contractions weren't showing up on the monitor so they actually did not think I was in labor-once she shifted the monitor they began showing up). More test were run to rule out preeclampsia which all came back negative so I was admitted with my contractions being around 2 minutes apart.
Once they got me to a delivery room and I received my epideral they checked me and I was now dilated to 7 and 100% effaced. I believe this was around 12:30-it wasn't long until they checked me again (at this point my blood pressure was still high and my contractions were timing ~1 minute apart) and I was dilated to 9 cm. At around 1:30 Dr. Henley said I was ready to start pushing. During this point I was very unsure and was trying to learn where to push (I didn't want to push in the wrong spot). Everyone kept telling me I was doing a great job but I was getting frustrated because I didn't feel I was making progress quick enough. Corbin's heart rate also started dropping during contractions/pushing and one of the nurses mentioned the cord possibly being wrapped around his neck so that worried me as well. My epidural wore off completely so I was able to feel things better but was in pain. Pushing continued for around 2 and 1/2 hours and Dr. Henley talked about helping out by using a vacuum. It took me a bit to process this information since contractions were coming so frequently (he also told me not to push every time so I wouldn't get exhausted) but eventually I decided to use the vacuum to help me get him out. With one last push and the vacuum, Corbin was born at 3:57 p.m. on May 16th, 2010. It was so great to hear him cry and get to hold him for the first time. He had lots of family and friends waiting for his arrival in the nursery. We took our time in the delivery room to bond together and nurse for the first time since he was so wide awake. What a great day it was to finally have our sweet boy here!
